# Adjust Member Tier

The **Adjust Member Tier** action lets you manually move a member between tiers directly from their **Member Profile** in Inveterate. This is especially helpful now that Shopify no longer requires a payment method to create subscription contracts, which means merchants can remove previous limitations when moving a member from a free tier to a paid tier.

### Why this is useful

Merchants commonly use **Adjust Member Tier** to:

* **Correct tier assignment quickly** (for example, if a member was placed in the wrong tier or a support exception is needed).
* **Move members between free and paid tiers** without needing the customer to re-enroll (helpful for VIP upgrades, promos, and customer support situations).

***

### How to adjust a member’s tier

1. In your Inveterate dashboard, click **Members**.&#x20;
2. Select the member you want to update.&#x20;
3. In the member profile, click **Adjust tier**.&#x20;
4. Click the **Tier** dropdown and select the tier you want to move the member to.&#x20;
5. (Optional) Update the member’s **billing date**, or leave it as-is.&#x20;
6. Click **Adjust** to save your changes.&#x20;

#### What happens next

After saving, the member will receive an email notifying them that their tier has changed.<br>

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://help.inveterate.com/help-center/guides/members/member-profile/adjust-member-tier.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
