How to Create Journeys in Attentive with Inveterate's Custom Events

Once your integration is enabled, Inveterate will forward important membership-related events to Attentive using their Custom Events API. You can find a complete list of the events we send over and their details, along with email and SMS template examples on this page.

Step 1. Send a test event

Before you can create a Journey based on a Custom Event, you need an example of that event in your Attentive account. The easiest way to do this is by triggering a test event from the Messaging page in your merchant-dashboard. Select which event ("Welcome", "Credits Earned", etc.) you want to set up a Journey for, then use the "Send test" email feature to forward a test event for that notification to your Attentive account.

Make sure to use an email address matching an existing member of your loyalty program that is also a subscriber in your Attentive account.

Step 2. Confirm a matching Custom Event shows up under that customer's "Activities" pane in Attentive

After sending the test email, you can confirm this event was forwarded to Attentive by checking the "Activities" pane under the matching Subscriber in your Attentive account.

Step 3. Create a Journey for the Custom Event

Create a new Journey, using the "Start from scratch" option, and choose the relevant Inveterate event as your Journey trigger.

Step 4. Configure your Journey action to send a text message or email

Then drag either the "Send text message" or "Send email" actions from the left onto the diagram on the right.

You'll then need to specify the content of the text or email. We have provided both text and email templates you can use as a starting point for any of our events on this page: Attentive Custom Events List.

After you have finished editing your template, turn the Journey on.

Step 5. Send another test event to confirm text or email gets sent

Now that your Journey is activated you need to confirm Attentive is sending the email or text message to your subscribers when Inveterate forwards the Custom Event to Attentive's APIs. Send another test event using the "Send test" email feature in your merchant dashboard's Messaging page. Within a minute or two, you should receive the text or email.
